live audio-video installations
'tree [vol. ...]' is a series of research projects in building small programming
environments
with which it becomes possible to listen to tiny environmental sounds of the
immediate surrounding:
- at the Performing Arts Forum in St. Erme, France, the Oratory of San Lorenzo
in Rivai, Italy,
and at 'punt wg' and 'wg kunst' in Amsterdam, the Netherlands - through a
stethoscope placed
under the barkof a tree which registers the fluids running through the stem
of the tree,
and a light sensor placed in the leafs or next to the tree to control the
volume of the received sound.
A live camera transmits the inverted real-time image of the hole in the tree
where the sound is gathered from.
Additionally, recordings of the movement of a trees' small twig are rendered into a live drawing.
The resulting sound of a plane tree can be heard in the chapel of PAF in St.
Erme, France.
The resulting sound of a white beech can be heard in the oratory of San Lorenzo
in Rivai, Italy.
The resulting sound of a copper beech can be heard at punt wg in Amsterdam,
Netherland.
The resulting sound of a white haw can be heard at wg kunst in Amsterdam,
Netherland.
The resulting sound of an oak tree can be heard at the granary of Klenová, Czech
Republic.
The resulting sound of a red oak can be heard at the Kunstcentrum in Bergen NH,
Netherland
This series of 'tree [vol. ...]' projects was made possible through a residential
five-day workshop
in the context of the xmedk-series,
organized by nadine and tutored by apo33.
Participants build dedicated linux computers and install the necessary software
in order to develop specific artistic projects.
x-med-k is a hybrid series of experimental media workshops for artists organized
since 2004 by FoAM, okno and nadine,
with the support of the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF).
